James Suckling awards between 90 and 92 points five reds from Lavradores de Feitoria

The renowned American wine critic James Suckling tasted several reds from Lavradores de Feitoria and the results are great, starting with the 2016 vintage of Três Bagos Grande Escolha Red, which isn’t in the market yet, which got 92 points and described by the critic as a polished wine, very seductive and that can still remain some more time in the cellar of the Douro producer.

Also the Meruge Red 2017 received 92 points and in it Suckling highlights the aromas of dehydrated cherries, currants, praline, dried leaves, dried flower petals and spices. It presents medium body, elegant tannins, freshness and good acidity.

The critic also awarded with 92 points the Quinta da Costa das Aguaneiras, which he considers a full-bodied red, with firm and chewy tannins. A rich and polished wine, which is ready to drink, but will make a splash from 2022.

With 91 points, Três Bagos Reserve Red 2017 features aromas of wild blackberries, dried violets and black olives, with hints of mushrooms and smoked meat. On the palate, reveals firm and elegant tannins integrated with a good acidity.

Finally the Lavradores de Feitoria Red, from the 2018 vintage, James Suckling rated it with 90 points and describes it as a juicy and tasty wine, with aromas of black cherry, violets, dried herbs and oysters. It has medium body, with fine and firm tannins.

Meruge White 2018 gets 93 points from James Suckling

Meruge White 2018 received 93 points and was featured in a list of eleven exciting Portuguese whites for sale in the USA under $40 by the renowned American wine critic James Suckling.

In the article published on the critic’s website, available HERE, this wine from the Douro producer Lavradores de Feitoria is described as a “lovely wine, very rich and complex, with a noticeable presence of lemon, honey, some dehydrated mango and a touch of cream and praline. It’s full-bodied, has an enveloping and creamy texture and a very tasty aftertaste».

In the opinion of James Suckling, it’s a white wine ready to drink, but which promises to evolve in a bottle, recommending keeping some bottles to “test” over the years.
