RENÉ BARBIER

BACK TO PRODUCERS

One of the most recognised brands of Penedès

In 1880, a French winegrower arrived in the Penedès region (Catalonia), leaving behind the phylloxera plague that had devastated his vineyards in Avignon. He was Léon Barbier. Working with the region’s indigenous varieties, he soon became one of its most important producers, and was one of the first to venture into the sale of bottled wine.

This initiative allowed him to gain a great deal of knowledge of his products when he and his son René began to personalise bottles with their own brand, which remains one of the most recognised in the Penedès. The winery is located in the village of Sant Cugat Sesgarrigues (Barcelona). The property has 120 hectares of land and vineyard.
