JOAQUIM COSTA VARGAS
A family project in Baixo Alentejo
Joaquim Costa Vargas wines are the result of a family production and have their origin in own vineyards installed in Herdade das Assentes de Baixo, in the heart of Alentejo, located between Cuba and Alvito, and inserted in the sub-region of Vidigueira.
The vineyards are divided into plots of different ages, the oldest dating from 1995 and the most recent from 2014. The vineyards occupy a 25 hectare parcel of the property, where red grape varieties represent 80% of the area and we can find Trincadeira, Aragonês, Alicante Bouschet, Touriga Nacional, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. The white varieties are predominantly Antão Vaz, but Arinto and Roupeiro are also planted.
In the vineyard, the aim is to produce grapes with the character and typicality characteristic of the region, production being directed towards obtaining a style of wine markedly Alentejo.
“Between Cuba and Alvito, 25 hectares of vineyards are planted with the purpose of creating a style of wine markedly Alentejo.”
